Dr. Michael Bugeja

Director, Greenlee School of Journalism

Iowa State University

Dr. Bugeja discussed the changing landscape of American journalism and how the media in the United States are responding to these changes.

In his comments, he challenged the participants to focus on local issues of importance in their local communities.  He also said one of the most important questions journalists can ask are: What is the story about?  What is this story really about?

During his exchange with the participants he challenged them to focus on local issues to make their newspapers relevant and attract new readers thus increasing the financial value of their publications.  Several participants—in the final course evaluations—noted Dr. Bugejašs comments among the highlights of the program.
