Suriname
Journalism Workshop
October
11—21, 2006
I conducted two separate workshops for
print and broadcast journalists in Nickerie and Paramaribo, Suriname. The
program was sponsored by the United States Embassy and was a follow-up to the first
program held in Suriname in 2005.
There were more than 24 participants
in Nickerie (Surinamešs second city) and in Parimaribo (capital). The program combined discussions,
exercises and final projects.
This project would not have been
possible without the support of U.S. Ambassador Lisa Bobbie Schreiber Hughes,
Political and Economic Officer Andrew Utschig, and Press Attache Cliff Djamin,
who was my tireless companion for both the 2005 and 2006 workshops.
Finally, an eternal debt of gratitude
to all the participants in Nickerie and Paramaribo for their active
contribution, work, enthusiasm and friendship during our four days together in
each city.
